Automation making daily lives easier!

Have you ever been wanting to get up from bed and make coffee for yourself or in wonders studying hard just before exams and wanting a cup of tea besides, but too lazy to do it ?

Instead of jinxing "If someone could have made me a coffee it would have been so nice", you can think of Automation! It is the process of replacing a manual step with one that happens automatically. Coming to coffee as we started, you could set up your coffee machine in a way that it starts brewing even before you get up from bed! That's the power of science and technology.

We come across need to automate a lot times in our daily lives. A common example is the traffic signals which show red, yellow and green signals themselves, reducing the necessity of a traffic police to stand day and night to control traffic. Automation is not just concerned outside our house but can be easily implemented in our houses!! Instead of getting notice of late payments for electricity or water bills, you could always use automatic or scheduled bill pay. How about programmable air conditioners which switch on and adjust themselves to make you comfortable after a tiring day at office? Not just air conditioners but washing machines, televisions, light systems at home can be automated to reduce human intervention.

"They say time is money" but, I want to say, "time makes money". Time is greater than money. There's no doubt that time has become a hot commodity in this technologically driven world. The breakneck speed and ever-evolving nature of the business sector drives the need for automation.

- Israelmore Ayivor, in his book Shaping the Dream

In broader sense, automation is the technology concerned with a machine or software performing the repetitive tasks that humans may have to perform. The term automation was coined in automobile industry in mid 20th century, when there was rapid increase in automatic devices.

It can be classified as fixed, programmable and flexible based on the task to be carried out and how it is to be done. But not all tasks can be automated, can you trust a machine to give a nice, stylish haircut? During haircut, the client's current hair length, new hair length and which style best suits, hair texture and many more constraints to be taken in care. The skills and experience learned by the salon experts over years is difficult to match by the automated machines.

Thus, automation is a powerful tool when used in the right place at the right moment. It can save time, reduce errors, increase consistency, and provides a way to centralized solutions and mistakes making them easier to fix. Unlike human beings machine does not get tired even after doing the same task whole day. The journey of automation does not stop here, there is a lot to be explored. Happy Automating!
