Faster than Light beings


From Einstein's theory of Special relativity, it's been clear that the ultimate speed at which anything is traveling, which can be felt is the speed of light itself. But even after calculating number of times, the velocity of galaxies which are at the edge of the observable universe is more than the speed of light.

Can we infer from this that there is something in those galaxies which are driving them at crazy speed. Something which has the potent to run out the light!!!




Well there is a small logic which we is missing here. It's not only the galaxies which has motion but even the space-time also. From Einstein's General theory of relativity it is clear that matter bends space-time. But when the matter has acquired some velocity, space-time also stretches itself. What this means is that from the time of Big-Bang it's not only galaxies (matter) which are moving apart but also the fabric (space-time) holding these galaxies which is expanding.

But how does this explain that nothing is moving faster than light? To simplify this let's consider a case:

let's say that A,B and C be three cars and we are in car B (Origin). With respect to us let's say that cars A and C are moving with 1m/s^2 acceleration in opposite direction to each other. So, after 1second cars A and C have velocity of 1m/s. After 2seconds they will have velocity of 2 m/s with respect to car B. As time passes both cars with uniform acceleration move away from each other. But it has to be considered that all these things are recorded when we are in car B.

Now, when we see the same scene from car A. The acceleration of car B is 1m/s^2 and car C is 2m/s^2 with respect to car A. So, after 1second when we see cars B and C from A, there velocities will be 1m/s and 2m/s respectively. After 2seconds car B will have velocity of 2m/s and car C will have velocity of 4m/s. So as time passes velocity of cars will increase.

In the above case,when observed with respect to car B velocity of car C is 2m/s after 2seconds but when observed from car A velocity of car C after 2 seconds is 4m/s likewise even before the velocity of car C exceeds velocity of light, it's velocity with respect to car A will be more than velocity of light.

Since in Universe we exactly don't know where the origin(0,0,0) is and are calculating velocity of different galaxies considering our galaxy at origin. This method of calculating velocity of different galaxies will result in velocities higher than velocity of light, but it should not be concluded that those galaxies are moving in speeds higher than that of light.
